For over 30 years as a slump or gravity glass artist Michael K has been creating and producing his passion for color and design with glass, winning numerous awards and recognitions for his fine art.
Michael started his journey in the mid 80’s working in ceramics, designing, and selling with a Los Angeles, CA ceramic studio. Then in the 90’s he became deeply inspired by the incredible beauty and diversity of glass so he shifted their focus from ceramics to slumping glass and creating his unique vases with the studio.
By the early 2000’s Michael opened “Michael K Original’s” allowing his art and creative interests to expand towards designing and creating incredibly beautiful large works of glass art on his own; including his all original dimensional statement pieces for walls large and small as well as commissioned custom art pieces for individuals and businesses. “Michael K Originals” has become a successful art business and this in and of itself, fosters his creative passion through his customers' love of his gravity glass art.
As fate would have it in 2022, Michael’s son Robert joined him in the business of creating original art. Robert brings his own set of unique skills and artistic talents to his art. Together, they are creating some of the most sought-after art in their studio in Rimrock, AZ. This year he recently renamed the business “Gravity Glass Art, LLC as a better representation of their art.
In Michael’s word’s …
“I love to create shapes within the glass that form embossed images. I use paints, metal leafing, copper wire, and other materials within and on my glass art. When I combine the embossed glass and these other materials, my designs are more dimensional yet structural. I’m inspired by nature and express it through a contemporary design eye by combining nature like metals, seashells and other natural influences in my art. I truly enjoy helping clients with unique designs created just for their home.”
In Robert’s word’s…
“Expressing artistically through the medium of glass has been a new and exciting creative adventure for me, even though I grew up watching my father create his art. At the age of 5, I was helping him sell his vases, at age 15, I watched him transform his art away from vases and explore the beautiful art he creates today. Over the past year I have been discovering a deeper understanding of my father’s art and have intuitively incorporated this knowledge into my own designs as I have truly inherited his love for creating our art.”
